Applications for British nationality made outside the UK are now to be submitted directly to the UKBA in Liverpool for consideration rather than to the applicant’s local High Commission or Consulate. We note that despite this change from 16 July 2012, the Home Office AN guidance booklet (09/10) is yet to be updated to reflect this change.
Residents in Hong Kong are the exception to this rule and should continue to submit their applications to their British High Commission or British Consulate.
The authorities in some countries do not permit passports to cross national borders. The Home Office advises that in these instances a complete certified copy by a local notary or equivalent will suffice.
